What are hearing aids?

A hearing aid is a very small amplifying device which fits on the ear making makes it easier for you to hear clearly, to detect and locate sounds with less effort, and join in conversations like you used too. Socialising and everyday situations become a lot more fun when you can hear properly.

Hearing aids can help you hear everyday sounds such as the doorbell and telephone. They improve your ability to hear speech making you feel more confident when talking to people and making it easier for you to follow conversations in different environments.

A hearing aid has three basic parts: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The hearing aid receives sound through a microphone, which converts the sound waves to electrical signals and sends them to an amplifier.

The amplifier increases the power of the signals and then sends them to the ear through a speaker. There are many hearing aid options. Our audiologist will talkk you through the hearing aid types and best hearing aids for you.

How to choose the right hearing aid

It seems most people don’t use hearing aids because they have the misconception that they are big ugly things for the elderly.

This common perception is a long way from reality. The type of hearing aid you have is important.

Using the latest technology, hearing aids have got smaller over the years and some are barely visible and can hardly be seen at all.

Our audiologist will discuss at length with you the right hearing aid for you after your free hearing test. In recent years hearing aids have been revolutionised by cutting edge technology.

They have become smaller and more discreet and more effective.

More advanced hearing aids than the NHS

In recent years hearing aids have been completely revolutionised. Some of today’s hearing aids can even work as wireless headphones, connecting via Bluetooth to phones and televisions.

Re-join the world! Our hearing aids are 7 years more advanced than those available on the NHS. You can even have colourful hearing aids.

Behind the ear hearing aids

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids consist of a hard plastic case worn behind the ear and connected to a plastic earmold that fits inside the outer ear.

The electronic parts are held in the case behind the ear. Sound travels from the hearing aid through the earmold and into the ear. BTE aids are used by people of all ages for mild to profound hearing loss.

We have hearing solutions for everyone. If you find yourself not hearing well in everyday situations and on the telephone you may have a hearing loss. Even a slight hearing loss will prevent you from living a full life. Untreated hearing loss can lead to social isolation, loneliness and frustration.

A well-fitted hearing aid can greatly enhance your ability to interact with others.

A person is said to have hearing loss if they are not able to hear as well as someone with normal hearing. It may be only one ear that you need a hearing aid in. Book in for a free hearing test and find out about the different hearing solutions that will help you.

Anyone aged over 55 should have their hearing checked each year. Remember, modern hearing aids will not just help you communicate better, they can boost your confidence and eliminate those embarrassing situations when you have misheard something. When you hear properly it helps your own physical wellbeing and overall health. If you struggle to watching TV or hear music then the right hearing aid will help you.

Did you know that 42% of people over the age of 50 years have some hearing loss? A hearing loss is noticed far more than a hearing aid. Infact 1/6th of UK has hearing loss so you’re not alone.

A modern hearing aid magnifies sound vibrations entering the ear. Surviving hair cells detect the larger vibrations and convert them into neural signals that are passed along to the brain.

The greater the damage to a person’s hair cells, the more severe the hearing loss, and the greater the hearing aid amplification needed to make up the difference.

Firstly we really do not recommend that you carry out an online hearing test. You need one to one advice and guidance during a hearing test. You may also need wax removal.

The type of hearing aid is very important. Not all hearing loss is the same. Not all aids are fit for all. There is usually a small adjustment period needed for all aids.

Price is also a key consideration because hearing aids range from hundreds to several thousand pounds.

However, don’t use price alone to determine the best hearing aid for you. Just because one hearing aid is more expensive than another does not necessarily mean that it will better suit your needs.

Our audiologist will discuss your best options for you. Do the benefits of newer technologies outweigh the higher costs for your particular hearing loss?

If you are concerned about how you’ll look wearing a hearing aid, let our audiologist know.

He can help narrow the choices to what will best suit both your hearing needs and your appearance. They are very easy to fit into your ear. You will be shown how to fit your new hearing aid by our audiologist
