The benefits of regular eye tests with VIP Eyewear

Apart from our amazing, friendly team, great coffee and a truly relaxing environment, regular eye tests have many benefits for your eye health.

A thorough eye test with VIP Eyewear will screen for a variety of other general health issues.   In addition to spotting early indicators of eye diseases like glaucoma and cataracts.

You can avoid serious harm to your eyes with an early diagnosis.

Your optometrist at VIP eyewear will determine how often you will need an eye test. Most people should have one every two years and in some cases, one every year.

Your optometrist will create a comprehensive report on your eye health based on the results of your eye test.  This will assess a number of factors, such as your lifestyle, current prescription, eye pressure, and muscle strength.

Optical Coherence Tomography

OCT scan included with VIP eye tests

As part of the regular eye test we also offer an optical coherence tomography scan (OCT).  This helps our eye care specialists recognise the health of your retina.  This OCT scan can identify several serious eye conditions.

Our eye specialist can observe the distinct layers of the macula by examining cross-section images of your retina.  This is taken with the OCT scanner using light waves. In addition, it enables an in-depth examination of the Optic Nerve, a vital structure for maintaining eye health. The pictures enable the early identification of numerous conditions, such as the following

Everything you need to know about an OCT Test

An OCT scan, or optical coherence tomography scan, is for anyone 25 years of age or older.  They help you to learn more about you eye health, or who have diabetes, glaucoma, or a family history of eye illness.

We always advise that an OCT scan should be performed along with every eye exam.  We will insist on this even if your vision and eye health are excellent. Having a baseline image on file allows your optician to track any changes over time, which is incredibly helpful.

It’s the same as when we use digital retinal photography to capture an image of your retina.

All OCT scans are performed as part of our regular eye tests.

It only takes a few seconds to complete an OCT scan, and during your eye exam, the optician will go over the results with you.

OCT scanning can be repeated over time for comparison and is an excellent way to confirm that your eyes are healthy.

This makes it especially helpful for identifying potentially dangerous disorders for your eyesight, most of which don’t show any symptoms until they begin to affect it.

Your optician can detect minor changes over time with OCT.  These include alterations in the macula (a region at the centre of the retina that is responsible for our central vision), retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye), vitreous (the jelly-like substance that fills the eye), and optic nerve (which sends light impulses to the brain to produce the images we see).

Eye Conditions

  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Detached retina
  • Age-related macular
  • degeneration
  • Macular hole

Compared to conventional approaches, an OCT scan can help diagnose glaucoma up to four years earlier.

An OCT scan uses light to capture over 1,000 images of the back of your eye and beyond, all the way back to the optic nerve, in a matter of seconds.

We are able to assess your eye health because of the layered image that is produced, which provides us with an extremely precise representation of your eye and its structures. After that, the pictures will be saved so we can track alterations over time.

Our optometrists receive specialised training on how to make effective use and interpretation of OCT scan results. Optometrists can view a detailed and extremely precise image of your eye’s health thanks to an OCT machine that captures a 3D scan of your eye. If anything, the likelihood of a misdiagnosis decreases with its use because it can identify traits that conventional retinal photography is unable to capture.

I had an amazing experience with VIP Eyewear from start to finish. The initial styling session via video call was incredibly helpful and gave me a real understanding and insight into what styles would actually suit me. The follow-up report was fantastic too, it was great to see the results clearly laid out and have a reference document to look back on for colours and styles. The eye test itself was quick, easy, and very thorough, and throughout the whole process I always felt genuinely welcomed and looked after. As someone who has never been very confident choosing glasses for myself, the team made me feel completely comfortable, understood, and supported. The in-house styling session was brilliant, and for the first time I left with a pair of glasses that I absolutely love, not just ones other people said “looked okay”! A huge thank you to all the team for your support, expertise, and friendly approach. I couldn’t recommend VIP Eyewear more highly!

Going to VIP Eyewear is always a pleasure. The ladies are all so friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to help you choose glasses that suit your face shape and colouring. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Five stars isn't enough.
